On Friday a Mexican-American Flush Rush volunteer contacted a WOR advertiser called Page Publishing to politely request that they not advertise on the Rush Limbaugh Show. She specifically objected to Limbaugh's characterization of Mexicans as being lazy by nature. The response she received will make your day: I am the president of Page Publishing, and I could not agree with you more. He is a disgusting, misogynistic racist. We have been advertising with WOR for quite a while, but they only recently added this morons program to their lineup, and we were assured that our ads would not inadvertently run during his show. Thanks for pointing out that it did (I dont have the stomach to listen to his show to verify if our ads do run). I will insist that our ads never run during his bigoted show. It amazes me that his show has any audience at all here in New York City- a progressive and liberal place if ever there was one (the place where I was born and raised, and a place that is amazing in its diversity). Your email reached me because the staff here universally despises Limbaugh and everything he stands for, and they know of my feelings as well. The ironic things about most of the nonsense that he spews, in particular his references to Mexicans and Mexican-Americans, is that there probably isnt a harder working group of people in the nation right now. He has the right to say what he wants, and we have the right to refuse to support him with our corporate advertising dollars. Her insurer just cancelled her policy, and according to Johnson, new insurance would cost her over $1,000 a month. The good news is that the thing that makes it a horror story isn't that Whitney Johnson lost her insurance and can't afford new coverage, because it turns out Johnson actually was able to purchase coverage for $350 a monthnot the $1,000 she initially had told the newspaper. What makes it a horror story is that when the Star Telegram learned that Johnson actually was able to get coverage, they did nothing to change their original report, even though it was at best incomplete. As Maggie Mahar, who wrote the post linked above, puts it: This major dailys nearly 200,000 daily readers saw the story that would lead them to believe that Americans who received cancellation notices were left in limbo. Most, it concluded, would wind up uninsured or paying more than they could afford. As Ive pointed out many times and as more and more coverage is revealing the opposite is true. Mahar researched the stories of three other "Obamacare losers" included in the Star Telegram's report; it turns out Johnson's story was not alone in being incomplete. In fact, of the four people in the report, three were tea party members. That alone doesn't prove anything, but when you've got a bunch of teapartiers who just so happen to make the perfect Obamacare victims, it can't hurt to be skeptical. But according to Mahar, the reporter assigned to the story didn't have a background in health policy and even if she had, she was operating under such a tight deadline, she didn't have much time to do adequate research. When that happens, we end up with stuff like this. In the end, as frustrating as it is to see Obamacare horror stories that don't add up, it's actually good news that they usually aren't what they seem to be, not just for the "victims" but also for the success of Obamacare. As long as Obamacare works, that's not something sloppy reporting can undo.reaActually there was widespread support for doing Dendroc2014-01-07 13:41:17something military there in response. I think there's a good chance it might have ended up being less than the full-blown invasion and occupation that did happen, hence the "maybe" in my earlier post.stlIt's a type of handgun I carry every day § 2014-01-07 13:40:21sfoMASS SHOOTING IS BREWING AS I SPEAK. § nintyninepercent2014-01-07 13:39:27I can cut US Murder rate nearly in half. John McCain (R-AZ) convinced that failure of the American military effort there now falls on President Obama's shoulders. McCain went on Fox News on Tuesday morning to once again blast Obama for withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq and ending U.S. involvement in the unpopular war. "Could I just say, we could have left a residual force behind," McCain insisted. "It could have been done." Today, 43% of Republicans and 67% of Democrats say humans have evolved, a 24-point gap. Looking at the results another way, in 2009, 39 percent of Republicans thought humans existed in their present form in the past (i.e. "Garden of Eden"). In 2013, that number is 48 percent. So three years ago, conservatives looked around at each other and said, "we're kinda stupid, but not stupid enough. Let's work on that!" Mission accomplished.
