Obamacare Increases Health Care Costs. The Exchanges May Not Be Secure, Putting Personal Information at Risk. Continue Collecting Constituent Stories. The document, the product of a series of closed-door strategy sessions that began in mid-October, is part of an increasingly organized Republican attack on the Affordable Care Act, President Obamas signature legislative initiative. Republican strategists say that over the next several months, they intend to keep Democrats on their heels through a multilayered, sequenced assault. That's from The New York Times, which apparently has become the lucky recipient of leaks galore from House Republican operatives eager to convince skeptics that it does in fact have an effective and viable political strategy, and that they are not, contrary to most available evidence, a bunch of nincompoops. The report is filled with a bunch of self-congratulatory rhetoric from Republicans impressed with their ability to have put the administration on defense over Obamacare, which completely makes sense except for the part about how the primary reason why Obamacare has gotten bad press is because in most states, consumers could not access exchanges because of the botched implementation of healthcare.gov and some state-based exchange web sites. It's not that Republicans don't deserve a little bit of political credit here, but basically they are the equivalent of a defensive player in a football game who winds up with the ball in his hands after an unforced fumble. (Speaking of football analogies, you have got to read Jonathan Chait's awesome takedown of an actual football play diagrammed out in the House GOP's attack-Obamacare playbook.) Do nothing and watch Dems self-immolate under 2013-11-23 13:58:54Obamacare. I check commie__bastard2013-11-23 13:57:04out those sites from time to time too. but I know lies instantly. AND YOU?? oh, well of course you do. of course.here's my recommendation for the GOP JohnnyTrigger2013-11-23 13:56:51drop all of the social con positions on abortion, gay marriage, war on drugs, women's contraception, etc. Acknowledge you are on the losing side on these issues and they are all trending away from you. These are battles you will not win. Instead embrace them and look for ways to make them better in society. For example, keep abortion legal, but support sexual education initiatives. Support legalization of marijuana and address other drugs as a health issue rather than a criminal issue. This will be a major change in direction and will eliminate so many of the emotional hot button issues that alienate voters. Then... on fiscal matters, actually push for small govt. Show credibility around your message of lower spending and lower taxes. Keep holding the line on no tax increases for anyone, but accept deep cuts in military. Accept an end to subsidies for big oil. Push to end the wars NOW. Close military bases on foreign soil. If you do this under the umbrella of *real* fiscal conservatism, then your message will have credibility. These are issues that will attract people to your party and re-energize your base. I think this will make a world of difference to your party.brlIf you're like me they It_does_not_matter2013-11-23 13:56:42just keep getting better and better.
